Cattle Futures Lower at Midday

Live cattle futures are down 17 to 30 cents with April down the most. Feb futures are 7 cents higher to $120.90, as of 02/14 there were no deliveries against Feb futures. Front month feeder cattle futures are up at midday, with March leading the way plus 47 cents. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 2/13 was $140.61. The Fed cattle Exchange online Wednesday auction lists 422 head so far, with 197 TX steers, and the rest from KS feed yards. Wholesale boxed beef prices were lower this morning and widened the Choice/Select spread to $1.82. Choice boxes were down $0.86, while select boxes were $1.60 lower. Cash last week was $118-119, with dressed sales from $190 -$192. The USDA estimated FI cattle slaughter for last week at 620,000 head through Saturday. That was 9,000 head below the week prior but 12,000 more yr/yr.
